Awards and Honors

Golden Beaver in Engineering, 2003

The Beavers is a social, honorary organization that is formed, organized and managed by the construction companies and individuals who are or have been engaged in heavy engineering construction.

The purpose of the Beavers is to promote good will, friendliness and consideration . . . to give recognition to those men and women who have demonstrated particular skill, responsibility and integrity . . . and to encourage and support the entry of promising young individuals into heavy engineering construction.

Each year, the Beavers recognize five individuals as Golden Beavers for their outstanding contributions to the heavy engineering construction industry. Awards are made in the following categories: Management, Supervision, Engineering, Service and Supply, and Special Award. In 2003, Tom Warne was recognized as a Golden Beaver in the Engineering Category.

The Thomas H. MacDonald Memorial Award, 2002

Established in 1957 in recognition of the outstanding achievements of the late Thomas H. MacDonald in the fields o highway administration, engineering and research, this award is authorized to be presented at the Association's annual conference.

To be eligible for this award, a person must have been employed by one or more Member Departments of the Association for a period of a least five years and have rendered continuous outstanding service over an extended period of time or have mad some exceptional contribution to the art and science of highway engineering.

The Chief Administrative Officers of the Member Departments and Chairpersons of the Association's committees are eligible to submit nominations for this ward. The President shall appoint three Chief Executive Officers as the award committee, who shall serve three-year staggered terms. The Executive Director shall designate a secretary to the award committee.
